Chennai , Oct. 23

Small and medium enterprises in Korea could look at doing business with companies in Tamil Nadu, said Mr M. Rafeeque Ahmed, Chairman, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Tamil Nadu State Council. He was addressing a delegation from the Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Cooperation in the form of joint ventures and sub-contracting arrangements could help growth of small and medium industries in both nations, he said. Sectors where such cooperation could extend include semi-conductors, plastics, ceramic products, auto parts and agricultural instruments besides biotechnology and infrastructure.

At present, 63 Korean companies are present in Tamil Nadu, according to Mr Shaktikanta Das, Tamil Nadu Industries Secretary. He said that low cost of living and manufacturing and efficient port operations could propel Korean companies to set up a base in Chennai.

The Korean delegation was on a seven-day visit to Vietnam and India that concluded on Monday. Representatives from across industries like steel manufacturing, food processing, and information technology were part of the delegation.
