Infrastructure States - Karnataka KIADB to acquire land for tiny, small industry Our Bureau
"New units are expected to start their operations within the next 10 months."
Bangalore , Oct. 20 Tiny and small industrial units housed in residential areas will soon be relocated to larger clusters in the city for which the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) will be acquiring 25,000 acres spread across the State. The relocation of the units, which were adding to the congestion and pollution, would be able to operate in a more congenial environment with proper infrastructure such as power and water supply in the new industrial areas. According to official sources, the new units are expected to move and start their operations within the next 10 months. In another significant development, Kolar would become the new destination for investors from the State giving a fresh hope for the local population gainful employment after the public sector Bharat Gold Mines' closure. The Single Window Agency had cleared investment of Rs 11,203 crore in 2005-06 in Kolar. Recently the High-Level Committee, under the Chairmanship of the Chief Minister, had given clearance for a fresh investment of Rs 125 crore for two projects in Kolar. These units are expected to generate about 9,000 jobs. The Government would be acquiring about 1,200 acres in Malur and Narsapur in Kolar District to provide facilities to the industry. The new location for the tiny and small units in Bangalore have been identified at Ganapathihalli near Tavarakere and Dobaspet, besides a few other areas such as Kanakapura Taluk near Banglaore.
