The President of the Karnataka State Apex Cooperative Bank, Mr M.N. Rajendra Kumar, has urged the Karnataka Government to provide loans to self-help groups (SHGs) at four per cent interest rate.
Presiding over `Kudlotsava' a State-level exhibition-cum-trade fair of SHG products - in Mangalore on Friday, he said the Government should provide this facility to all SHGs.
The facility should not be limited only to a few SHGs, he said.
Organised by the Mangalore-based Navodaya Gram Vikas Charitable Trust, `Kudlotsava' provides an opportunity for the members of SHGs, promoted by the Trust, to market their products.
Mr Kumar, who is also the Managing Trustee of the Trust, said that an effort has been made in marketing the products of SHGs with this initiative.
Inaugurating the event, Mr A.G. Kodgi, Chairman of the Third Finance Commission of Karnataka, said that women play a major role in development.
He lauded the efforts of women SHGs in coastal Karnataka in this regard.
