Rupee gains marginally

Our Bureau

Mumbai, Oct. 19

The rupee gained marginally against a weak dollar on Thursday. Volumes were down ahead of festive season, said dealers. The rupee opened at 45.32/22 and touched a low of 45.36/37 before ending at the opening level. On Wednesday, the rupee had closed at 45.37.

"The market was lacklustre and there was little demand for the dollar," said a forex dealer with a private bank. In the overseas market, euro and pound recovered. Yesterday, the dollar had gained following a decline in the US consumer price index. Forward premia too did not see much movement, with the six month closing at 1.59 per cent (1.62 per cent) and the one-year unchanged at 1.55 per cent.
