Tea States - Other States Assam tea production dips in Aug Our Bureau
Kolkata , Oct. 15 Owing to the drought-like situation a few months back, tea production in Assam in August had dropped compared to the corresponding month last year.
Exports
Otherwise, as expected, tea production in the rest of the country has recorded growths. For the fourth consecutive month, tea exports have continued to grow and currently it is more than that of the last year.
Output
Total national tea production in August 2006 was 120.4 million kg marking a growth of 8 mkg compared to 112.4 mkg recorded in August 2005. January-August production in 2006 is 587.2 mkg (571.1 mkg). However, production in South India in the first eight months dropped by 6 mkg. It ended at 145.3 mkg as compared to 151.4 mkg in 2005.
Growth up
In North India, except Assam Valley all other major tea growing regions recorded growths. Dooars reported the highest growth. In August 2006 its production was 18.4 mkg (12.8 mkg). Meanwhile, exports are showing a positive trend. January-August export in 2005 was 110.56 mkg. In the current year it has increased to 114.09 mkg.
