Entrepreneurs should have an optimistic sense, vision and mission, said Mr K. Premanathan, Managing Director of Anand Engineering Products Pvt Ltd, here. He was inaugurating the Business Line club at Adaikalamatha Institute of Management at Adaikalamatha College at Vallam near Thanjavur. Delivering a lecture on entrepreneurship, Mr Premanathan said that entrepreneurs should have a business plan, desire to achieve and be innovative. Entrepreneurship is nothing but a management style, he pointed out.
Facing Hurdles
Challenges faced by the entrepreneurs are competition, both global and local, consumer preferences, and survival, which means . the best and fast alone can survive. Opportunities for entrepreneurs are also more, he said. Finance is the backbone of any industrial venture and managing the cash flow is an important aspect of an entrepreneur. Time management and improving communication skills are other important aspects for becoming a successful entrepreneur. Merits of being an entrepreneur are that you are your own boss and enjoy the profits. Disadvantages are that an entrepreneur has to stay for long hours at office, work hard and run the risk of loosing the money if the company is not managed well. Citing his own example, Mr Premanathan said that Anand Engineering was started as an ancillary of Bharath Heavy Electricals Ltd, Trichy, by his father in 1976. The industry was on one acre land and now it has spread to 80 acres. It started with 20 employees and now the company has 1,000 employees. Sales which was at Rs 5 lakh has now grown to Rs 40 crore. The company is now into windmill industry and has the tallest wind tower. Mr R. Kathaiyan, Principal of Adaikalamatha College, Mr V.S. Sukumaran, Director of Adaikalamatha Institute of Management, Mr V. Srikanthan, Regional Manager of The Hindu, Tiruchi, Mr Chandrasekaran, Assistant Regional Manager, participated in the meeting.
