Mumbai , Oct. 6

The two new plants of Procter & Gamble Hygiene and Health Care Ltd in Baddi, Himachal Pradesh, are expected to commence production this quarter, said Mr Bharat V. Patel, Chairman, Procter & Gamble Hygiene and Health Care Ltd, at the company's annual general meeting on Friday.

Procter & Gamble sells Vicks cough and cold remedies and the Whisper range of feminine hygiene products.

The plants, set up with an investment of Rs 60 crore, will manufacture healthcare products. The feminine hygiene products will continue to be made at its Goa facility.

The company did not provide details on funding of the expansion.

Consumer-product companies in the country are expanding to meet rising demand after gross domestic product increased more than 8 per cent in five of the past six quarters, making it the second- fastest growing major economy after China. That's giving Indians more disposable cash to spend on goods ranging from soaps to feminine hygiene products.

The company's shares fell 1.29 per cent to close at Rs 878.70 on BSE.
