The second World Ayurveda Congress will be held in Pune from November 5 to 12 at the University of Poona.

The Congress, organised by the university in association with Ayush, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Vjnana Bharati, will include a three-day Ayurveda Conference.

Besides, it will have an eight-day exhibition, student-expert interactions, two symposia and seven public lectures by experts.

Also two workshops have been planned on `panchakarma' and on developing methods and skills for writing scientific publications for researchers.

The focal theme of the Congress will be `Ayurveda for Future', which will also have other themes such as educational policies for the future, science initiatives in ayurveda, global challenges of ayurveda practice and contribution of pharmaceutical industries for future of ayurveda.

Five plenary sessions will be addressed by 63 eminent personalities from various countries including the US, the UK, Germany, Italy, Australia, Spain, Brazil, Dubai and Malaysia, according to Dr Vijay Bhatkar, Convenor, World Ayurveda Congress, and Mr A. Jayakumar, Organising Secretary, Vijnana Bharati.

They said that 506 research and review papers from 211 institutions all over the world have been received for presentation and 138 of them would be presented orally in 23 parallel sessions chaired by the experts from all over the globe.

Other events

The Congress would showcase achievements and services of ayurveda through the products. All the research councils of ayurveda, yoga, unani, siddha and homeopathy in India would be participating. National Medicinal Plant Board and the herbal industry would show live demonstrations of making pharmaceutical products, they said. Besides, two acres of university land, which has been developed as an Ayurveda herbal garden would be opened to general public during the exhibition period, they added.

"This is for the first time more than 3,000 delegates, policy makers, industrial experts, academic leaders and researchers would come together on a common platform for discussing the challenges and opportunities for this traditional science," they said.

The first World Ayurveda Congress was held here in 2002, which had attracted 2,000 delegates from 28 countries. The 2nd Congress coincides with the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Department of Ayurveda of University of Pune, they added.
