Meet on heritage foods in Hyderabad

Our Bureau

Hyderabad, Sept. 27

The Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (India) will organise a two-day conference on `Heritage foods: Opportunities and challenges' in the city on November 16 and 17.

Mr A. Satyanarayana, Honorary Secretary of the association, said the rich legacy of over 5,000 traditional Indian food products threw open huge opportunities for entrepreneurs. If harnessed well, these could create job opportunities to thousands of people.

The 18th Indian Convention of Food Scientists and Technologists (ICFOST-2006) would focus on preparing a roadmap to translate the potential into an opportunity. One of the major roadblocks was that the food-makers were not aware of the growing importance to hygienic processes and proper packing of the products.
