Sales of Toyota Corolla have nearly halved since the launch of Honda Civic, which hit the road merely a few months ago.
Sources in the industry said sales of Toyota Corolla have reduced to around 450 per month from 850-900 per month before the launch of Honda Civic. The 1.8-lt Civic, is witnessing sales of over 1,800 on a monthly basis probably because it is the newest car to hit the market, industry analysts said.
The C plus category with a market of between 2,500 and 3,000 cars every month may in fact expand further once the sales of Honda Civic stabilise in another few months, analysts said. "We expect to regain our numbers during this month itself," an official with Toyota Kirloskar told Business Line. The other cars in the C plus category include, Octavia, Elantra and Optra.
According to an analyst, one of the reasons Toyota Corolla could regain its earlier sales could be because it gives higher mileage than other cars in the same category. While Honda Civic is priced between Rs 10 lakh and Rs 12 lakh, Toyota Corolla is priced between Rs 9 lakh and Rs 12 lakh.
