Hyderabad , Sept. 22

The Andhra Pradesh Government has said that it is implementing the recommendations made by the Jayati Ghosh Commission. The Congress Government had appointed the commission to study farmers' suicides and suggest ways to tackle the problem.

Mr N. Raghuveera Reddy, Minister for Agriculture and Civil Supplies, said the Government implemented 129 of the 176 recommendations made by the commission. "We will come out with a detailed report on the implementation of these recommendations. We proposed to put this report on the Internet," he said, in a press release.

Measures taken

The Government had turned down six of the recommendations. With regard to the remaining 41 recommendations, the Government would take a decision after discussing with Health, Revenue and Social Welfare departments.

The measures included distribution of land to the landless, significant increase in farm credit and establishing of seed villages, the Minister said. He reviewed the progress of the implementation with the officials of various departments.

Later, addressing the valedictory of Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University (ANGRAU), he said agri-polytechnics were being set up in all the districts. Also, three horticulture colleges would be established.
