Airlines Air India set to lease 12 aircraft Ashwini Phadnis
New Delhi , Sept. 20 Air India (AI) will lease 12 aircraft, including nine on wet lease, to operate schedule flights from India to the US, the UK, Canada, South Korea and Africa. The airline is to wet lease four aircraft from among the Boeing 747-400, Boeing 747-300, Boeing 777-300 and Boeing 777-200 extended range (ER), apart from the Airbus 340-600, A-340-300 the Airbus A-330-200 and the MD 11. A wet lease involves taking an aircraft on lease with the cockpit crew. Two of the aircraft are to be taken on lease for 11 months, and the other two for up to 26 months. The airline plans to induct all four aircraft by December. The aircraft are to be utilised to operate scheduled flights on a variety of routes including India-New York-India, India-Chicago-India, India-Los Angeles-India and India-Canada-India among others. The airline also plans to wet lease five aircraft from among the Airbus A-310-300, Airbus A-330-200, the Boeing 767-200 ER, Boeing 767-300 ER and Boeing 757-200. These aircraft would be used to operate schedule flights on the India-Seoul-India, India-Shanghai-India, India-Singapore-Jakarta, India-Kuala Lumpur and India-Dubai routes, apart from operating hub-and-spoke flights between domestic cities. In addition, AI will dry lease up to three aircraft from either the Boeing 747-400 or the Boeing 777-200 ER. It is likely to induct the aircraft next month.
