The Singapore-based Banyan Tree Holdings Ltd will start operations in Kerala with a resort located on the Vemband Lake.

The company, which develops and manages luxury hotels and spas across the Asia-Pacific region, will run the Kerala property as a joint venture with the Kuwait-based Kapico Group Holding Co, says a company press release.

Located about 40 minutes away from Kochi by car and boat, the Banyan Tree resort and spa in Kerala will have around 100 water villas and luxury houseboats in addition to resort residential development, the release adds. The property will be designed by Banyan Tree and is to be completed by 2009.

spa in Gurgaon

Also on the cards is a spa in Gurgaon near New Delhi to be operated under the company's Angsana brand. The company has signed a spa management agreement with the Gurgaon-based Vipul Ltd for this project. The spa will be located on one hectare plot in an upmarket residential development and is expected to open in 2008, the release says.

Banyan Tree had recently announced a partnership with Brigade Enterprises Pvt Ltd to establish and manage two resorts and spas at Chikmagalur in Karnataka. While one resort will be operated under the company's Banyan Tree brand, the other will be run under the Angsana brand. Both properties are scheduled to open by 2008.
