Hyderabad , Sept. 14 Buoyed by the rewarding sales of Hanuman soft toys through official licence from Percept Pictures, Hanung Toys & Textiles Ltd is in talks with leading animation majors for acquiring rights of their mythological characters for soft toys production. Hanung, the largest manufacturers and exporters of soft toys and soft furnishings in India, is the official licensee of Disney Plush Toys, Disney Cushions, Infant Bedding and Infant Pre School category in the country. Talking to presspersons here, the Hanung Vice-President, Sales & Marketing, Mr A.K. Gupta, said several animation companies had approached the company in view of the successful sales of Hanuman soft toys. Stating that nothing was finalised so far on a partnership with them, Mr Gupta said Hanung would be comfortable marketing Indian mythological characters because of high potential in the domestic and export markets for such soft toys. Krishna and Ganesh were typical examples, he said. According to Mr Gupta, there has been fierce competition from Chinese soft toy makers in view of low duty rates and free imports. Stating that superior quality standards were helping Hanung to survive, he said the company might adopt a strategy of working on large volumes and thin margins to go forward.
Hanung is upbeat on the growth prospects in the fast growing domestic home furnishing market, which is currently estimated around Rs 5,000 crore and growing at around 25 per cent per annum. Within that, the company plans special focus on infant beddingwhich is largely untapped, Mr Gupta said.
The company is setting up a modern large-scale manufacturing facility in Uttaranchal at an investment of around Rs 160 crore. The unit will have a daily weaving capacity of 21,000 metres, one-lakh metres of processing and 16,000 pieces of made-ps. The construction and erection works are going on and the facility will take off sometime during early next year.
and Westside, the company is examining a proposal to expand its reach through franchisee networks, Mr Gupta said.
