Wipro's FMCG arm relaunches hair soap

More products to hit the market in two months

Wipro Consumer Care and Lighting , the FMCG arm of Wipro Ltd, on Wednesday relaunched its Wipro Shikakai hair soap. The soap has been in existence since 1986.

Talking to presspersons, Mr Kumar Chander, Vice-President Marketing, said the newly packaged soap would be enriched with herbal extracts, almond oil and hair softeners. It would be made available across the retail outlets in 100 gm packs and priced at Rs 15 each.

Currently, consumers are also getting one Santoor 45 gm soap free with every two packs of the soap as a consumer awareness programme, he said. Mr Kumar said that the revenue currently from the shikakai category in the country was around Rs 38 crore, of which Maharashtra alone accounted for Rs 20 crore.

Market share

He noted that Wipro Shikakai has a market share of 43 per cent on an all-India basis out of which 36 per cent was accounted to by Maharashtra. The major markets in the country for this category - Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh - accounted for about 85 per cent of the all-India sales, he said. The roll-out of the relaunched Shikakai, he said, has been kick-started in Maharshtra and would be completing its national launch within two months time.

New products

Mr Kumar also said the company would be rolling out new products in the shikakai category, including products for haircare. It might also roll out products in the wash segment. He declined, however, to give precise information but added that these products would hit the domestic market within two months.
