Grasim launches five new fabrics

Our Bureau

Chennai , Sept. 12

Grasim Industries Ltd, a part of the Aditya Birla Group, launched `the look of the season' with five new fabrics backed by an ad spend of Rs 2 crore, which would be spent from mid-September to end-November, Mr S. Krishnamoorthy, President, Grasim, said.

He said that these new fabrics were launched after extensive research and feedback from trade partners. Medova, he said, is a polyester-and-modal based product, which is available in many colours. Plural is a blend of three fibres — polyester, modal and wool. Juventus is a poly wool product, while Caramel is a softer fabric and Luztor has lustre.

The fabrics are priced between Rs 300 and Rs 1,000 a metre.

He said that the company is investing close to Rs 75 crore in the Bhiwani plant for modernisation, technological upgradation and in areas of design development. Mr Krishnamoorthy said that the apparels market was about Rs 4,500 crore of the Rs 9,000-crore textile market, with over-the-counter retail taking the rest. Despite the double-digit growth in the apparel segment, the over-the-counter retail non-jeans or the `dressy' look was growing at 5-8 per cent.
