The Union Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, on Friday said that the package of fiscal incentives for the electronic hardware industry, that had been promised in his Budget speech, would be announced shortly.

The Ministries of Finance and Information Technology were working towards producing that package, he said, speaking at a function of SPEL Semiconductors Ltd.

Later, in an informal chat with journalists, when asked if he could narrow down the timeframe for announcement of the package, he said, it could be announced "after the Prime Minister returns from the US."
