Hardware Marketing - Outlook Desktop sales may cross 56 lakh units: MAIT Our Bureau
The study covers the market size estimation for desktop PCs, notebooks, servers, printers and UPS systems.
Bangalore , Sept. 7 Desktop sales in fiscal 2006-07 are expected to cross 56 lakh units, according to a report by Manufacturers' Association for Information Technology (MAIT), an industry body. Desktops and laptops taken together crossed 12 lakh units for the quarter April-June of FY2006-07. MAIT's Quarterly Industry Performance Review for the quarter April-June of FY2006-07 involved data collation from 400 resellers/vendors across 16 metros. The study covers the market size estimation for Desktop PCs, Notebooks, Servers as well as peripherals such as printers and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. The desktop market grossed 10.2 lakh units in this fiscal, showing a dip of 22 per cent from the sequential quarter. It grew by nine per cent year-on-year. The households market that witnessed a slight slow down in the earlier quarters has once again become vibrant. The report also highlighted the fact that branded PCs were preferred. Sixty per cent of sales were branded PCs, whereas assembled ones, the smaller lesser known regional brands and unbranded systems, accounted for 40 per cent. Multinational brands accounted for 36 per cent of the market while the Indian brands accounted for the rest 24 per cent.
More investment
Notebook sales touched 1.8 lakh units recording 125 per cent year-on-year growth and 18 per cent sequential growth. Server consumption is expected to accelerate in the future, with increased investments in corporates, especially manufacturing and retail. In the printer segment, the report says consumption of laser printers grew by 65 per cent, of inkjet by 12 per cent, however, sales of dot-matrix printer declined by 7 per cent from same quarter last year.
