Connect 2006, this year's ICT (information, communication and technology) event of Tamil Nadu, will have two major events — institution of awards to first-generation entrepreneurs from the State and an international ICT exposition for digital home products and services.

ICICI Ventures has instituted the ICICI Venture - CII Connect 2006 Entrepreneur Award, which will be given to four entrepreneurs, said Mr Gopal Srinivasan, Chairman, Connect 2006.

The categories of the award include contribution and as a person from Tamil Nadu who has succeeded in the State, in India and globally; a person from outside Tamil Nadu who has succeeded in the State; a person from outside India who has succeeded in the State; and a person from Tamil Nadu who contributed to success by providing ample human resources, he said.

The awards would be given at Connect 2006 to be held on September 8 and 9 in the city.

Ms Renuka Ramnath, Managing Director and CEO, ICICI Venture Fund, said that the State-specific award was to recognise work done by successful entrepreneurs who have become successful globally.

A jury comprising members from the CII, which is organising Connect 2006, IT industry and ICICI Venture Fund selected the four entrepreneurs (names would be revealed at the event) based on their performance, setting industry standards and building organisations to last long, she said through a video conference.

Fair plan

A three-day Digital Home 2006 exposition organised by Trade Fairs & Conferences International will be held from September 8-10 at the Chennai Convention Centre.

The exposition would help customers discover the latest technology products and services.

Smart purchase

It would also help educate and empower visitors to evaluate various products and make smart purchase decisions, said Mr Balmohan Tarakad, President and CEO, Trade Fairs.

The list of participants in the exposition include Sony, Hewlett Packard, Apple, Panasonic, Canon, Intel, WorldSpace, TVS-E-Redington, Sify and Tata Motors.
