Clearance soon for Kakinada SEZ: Minister

Our Bureau

Kakinada , Sept. 1

Mr M. Pallamraju, Union Minister of State for Defence, who represents the Kakinada Lok Sabha constituency, has said the clearance for the first phase of the proposed special economic zone here is awaited and it may come soon.

At a press meet here, the Minister said that the promoters had already acquired 3,600 acres of land as against 2,500 acres required for the first phase, by directly purchasing the land from the farmers at Rs 3 lakh per acre.

`No impediments'

Referring to a speculation that the SEZ and the proposed refinery may not come up, he said there was no room for such doubts. The port-based refinery would certainly be set up by the ONGC and the other promoters. He asserted that there were no serious impediments to the setting up of the SEZ.

Mr Pallamraju also said a software park would be set up here in the Collectorate. A software incubation centre would be set up at a cost of Rs 95 lakh. Another Rs 1 crore would be allocated for creating the necessary infrastructure, including a satellite station.

He said the national centre for sustainable aquaculture would also be set up here. A coast guard station would also be set up on the beach road, he added.
