Spot rubber remains steady

The physical rubber prices finished unchanged on Friday. The market activities were dull lacking follow-up buying or selling as the reports from the international markets stayed almost neutral.

Sheet rubber RSS 4 closed static at Rs 87 a kg at Kottayam as on Thursday. But the grade lost 50 paise to Rs 86.50 a kg at Kochi on buyer resistance. The volumes were low.

Futures firm

The rubber futures continued to rule firm on NMCE following short covering at lower levels. The September contract was quoted at Rs 88.60 (Rs 88.14), October Rs 85.70 (Rs 85.48), November Rs 85.41 (Rs 85) and December contract at Rs 85.84 (Rs 85.30) per kg for RSS 4.

The transactions stood at 418 lots with 227 lots in August, 152 in September, 13 tonnes in October and 26 tonnes in December till midday.

The October futures for RSS 3 closed at 234.8 Yen (Rs 93.06) against 234.2 Yen a kg at TOCOM. The grade slipped to Rs 93.12 from Rs 93.25 a kg at Bangkok.

Spot rates per kg were: RSS-4: Rs 87 (Rs 87); RSS-5: Rs 85 (Rs 85); Ungraded: Rs 82.50 (Rs 82.50); ISNR 20: Rs 85 (Rs 85); and Latex 60 per cent: Rs 70 (Rs 70).
