Events States - Maharashtra Kalam to attend IIT alumni global meet Our Bureau
Kolkata , Aug. 31 The President, Dr A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, will grace the IIT alumni global conference that is scheduled to be held in Mumbai between December 23 and 25, 2006. IITians from across the globe are expected to participate in the conference, the theme of which is "Inspire IITians to involve and transform India". The global conference is expected to draw over 5,000 participants. According to Mr Ashank Desai, Chairman of Mastek Ltd and Chairman of the Pan IIT 2006 Committee, over the three-day period, various topics such as `Building Indian into a knowledge economy', `Getting the governance you want' and `Learning from successful entrepreneurs', etc, would be discussed. The conference would have seven segments, all built around the central theme of inspiring IITians to involve and transform India. Mr Desai told a news conference here that more than three lakh individuals have graduated from the seven IITs across the country. They hold key positions in India and abroad and share a common dream of seeing India at the helm of world affairs. The Pan IIT organisation was formed as an umbrella organisation covering all IITs to create a brand that would help strengthen fraternal ties among IIT alumni. In 2002, some likeminded alumni belonging to all the IITs came together and formed the Pan IIT Board. The major objectives of the board are nation building, branding, alumni services and advocacy for their alma mater. The organisation also provides a platform for networking with a view to achieving multi-pronged objectives.
