GoDB Tech launches new platform for feature phones

Chennai , Aug. 31

The Chennai- based mobile technology platform provider GoDB Tech (formerly known as Consign Technology Private Ltd) has launched GoDB version 3.9, a new platform for feature phones.

GoDB, short for Go Data Base, is a patented technology through which mobile applications can be developed on display devices such as smart phones, PDAs, mobile phones, PCs and laptops. "GoDB can be deployed on any operating system, any phone model and any network," said Mr P. Mahavir Chand, Director, GoDB Tech.

Applications include access to bank accounts, portfolio management, stock ticker services from NSE/BSE, ERP solutions and sales force automation. Applications can be developed online and offline, and depend on data from organisations such as banks and companies that provide content.

Over the last year such applications have been used by organisations internally. "Now we will reach out to customers directly," said Mr Chand. GoDB platform will be provided to mobile services operators who will then sell them to the public.

Feature phones constitute about 60 per cent of the 110-crore mobile phones sold in the world, he said. The company expects revenues of about Rs 18 crore for 2006-07 compared with Rs 5 crore in 2005-06.

Asked if GoDB would enter the content provider market, Mr Chand said, "We don't plan to provide content because in India operators still get about 70 per cent of revenues generated from content."

The company plans to raise about $5 million through equity dilution over the next two years to fund its expansion plans.

GoDB will double headcount at its Chennai R&D centre from 60 to 120 by March 2007. It will open an office in North America this October to market GoDB applications.

"We plan to get into domains like healthcare and Banking and Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI) by tying up with companies offering domain expertise," said Mr Chand.
