The additional stocks will meet the difference of Rs 100 per quintal between the average sale rate of Rs 550 per quintal and the concessional rate of Rs 450 fixed for the poultry industry.
Coimbatore , Aug. 30 The Union Ministry for Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs has asked the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to release an additional 3.5-lakh tonnes of maize for the poultry industry at a concessional rate of Rs 450 a quintal. This quantity is over and above the 1.25-lakh tonnes already allowed from the FCI stocks to the poultry farmers by the Centre two weeks ago at Rs 550 a quintal, poultry industry sources here said. The additional quantity is to be allocated to nine States through the respective State animal husbandry departments.
State-wise allocation
While the major poultry industry States of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra would get 11.89 lakh quintals, 9.65 lakh quintals and 4.5 lakh quintals, respectively, farmers in Karnataka, Orissa, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Goa would be distributed the remaining quantity in proportion, the sources said. The Government order said maize stocks from the FCI would be released at a subsidised rate of Rs 450 a quintal which will meet the difference of Rs 100 a quintal between the average sale rate of Rs 550 a quintal and the concessional rate of Rs 450 fixed for the poultry industry. The FCI has been asked to release from its stocks held in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. The poultry industry from Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Gujarat and Maharashtra will draw the supplies from Andhra Pradesh. Welcoming the move, the All-India Poultry Products Exporters' Association Secretary, Mr P. Valson, hoped the physical supply would be lifted by the Tamil Nadu poultry industry within the next ten days or so. He said the final cost of maize including the lifting charges and the transportation cost for the end users would work out at Rs 570-580 per quintal.
