Retailing Corporate - New Projects Alok Ind plans more exclusive stores Arushi Sen
Plans ahead The company is in the third and last phase of its Rs 1,100-crore expansion plan that started in 1999-2000. It plans to open shops in Pune, Bangalore, Thane and Vapi apart from Mumbai.
Mumbai , Aug. 30 Alok Industries Ltd, manufacturer and exporter of home textiles, apparel fabrics, garments and polyester yarns, plans to add nine exclusive stores to its existing two by the end of this year. The store, known as Homes and Apparels, stocks end product garments for Indian sizes.
New shops
Apart from Mumbai, the shops will be in Pune, Bangalore, Thane and Vapi. "The products available are of export value but they are being sold at very reasonable rates," said Mr Dilip Jiwrajka, Managing Director. Gap, Macy's and JC Penney are some of the international brands that make up the company's customer base. When asked why no advertising had been done for these shops, Mr Jiwrajka said, "Right now we don't feel the need to advertise. I can guarantee you that once you walk in; you'll come out a satisfied customer." The company has put together an entire group of people, including a design team to manage this business. "This is our only foray into retail, if it's successful, we'll make it grow. This kind of model is the easiest for us to operate," said Mr Jiwrajka.
Last phase
The company is in the third and last phase of its Rs 1,100-crore expansion plan that started in 1999-2000. This phase is expected to be complete by March 2008. In July, the company signed a MoU with Teviz Textil Vizela SA (Teviz), a European manufacturer of high-end yarn dyed flannel shirting, for getting Teviz's products manufactured at the production facilities of Alok Industries. The Portugal-based Teviz will provide the necessary technical support and design inputs to Alok Industries.
