Rao takes over as GAIL CMD

Close on the heels of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of state-owned ONGC, Mr Subir Raha, being denied extension, the latest to exit is the CMD of the gas transmission and marketing major GAIL (India) Ltd, Mr Proshanto Banerjee.

Mr Banerjee, whose five-year term expired on Saturday, was denied a14-month extension - when he would have turned 60 - till superannuation. An official communication from GAIL on Sunday said that Mr S.P. Rao, Director (Projects), GAIL, has taken over the additional charge of the post of the Chairman and Managing Director.
