New Delhi , Aug 23

The Government today said that 40 per cent of pre-paid mobile subscribers did not fully meet the requirement of subscriber verification, leading to violation of instructions by the service providers.

"It was observed that all the service providers in places like Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Haryana did not fully comply with the extant instructions on subscriber verification," said Mr Dayanidhi Maran, Minister of Communication and IT, in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.

He added that it was observed that about 60 per cent of pre-paid subscribers and 93 per cent of the post-paid users fully met the requirement of subscriber verification.

Notices have been issued to service providers concerned in the areas mentioned to disconnect connections that have been provided without proper verification and also to explain why action should not be taken against them for not complying with the terms and conditions of the Licence Agreement.

The DoT had undertaken a sample study to verify whether operators were following the instructions on verification before issuing a connection.
