TN leads in engg exports from South

Madurai, Aug. 23

Tamil Nadu, among the southern States, led in export of engineering goods valued at Rs 9,484 crore in 2005-06, said Mr R. Srinivasan, Field Officer, Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC), Chennai, here on Wednesday. The total value of exports at the all-India level stood at Rs 84,943.73 crore, he said while addressing on the role of EEPC at the `Export Awareness Programme', jointly organised by the Madurai District Tiny and Small-Scale Industries Association and EEPC.

The Branch Manager, Export Credit Guarantee Corporation (ECGC) of India Ltd, Madurai, explained the role of ECGC. Inaugurating the programme earlier, the Deputy Director General of Foreign Trade, Madurai, Mr D. Gajapathy, observed that with the simplification of procedures and online facilities made available and with the support of other institutions, Indian engineering goods exports target has been raised to a market share of 1.5 per cent of the global level.
