The Chief Minister, Mr V.S. Achuthanandan, has called for wider rollout and intensive propagation of free software to end what he described as monopolistic tendencies in the industry.

He said this while inaugurating a one-day seminar on free software hosted jointly by the Kerala State IT Mission and the Society for Promotion of Alternative Computing here on Monday.

The Chief Minister also said that the State Government would do what it could to popularise the ideas of the free software founder Mr Richard Stallman, who was also present at the seminar. Among those who spoke on the occasion were Mr M. Sivasankar, Director, IT Mission and Mr Satish Babu.
