Airtel said here on Friday it is contributing to the ongoing relief operations in the State following the torrential rains by pressing its infrastructure into action to help people in flood-affected areas.

A company statement said it is working in tandem with the local administration at Pune, Kolhapur and Sangli to broadcast public interest SMSs to the locals in the respective cities. Regular messages from the local administration on the prevailing situation and the emergency help line numbers are being communicated to the Airtel customers, the statement said.

Kiosks set up

The company has also set up help line kiosks offering free local calls to people in affected areas such as Sangli, Bhilawadi, Narsingwadi, Nanded, Chandrapur and Akola.

These Airtel Helpline Kiosks are equipped with Airtel PCOs to provide timely convenience to the callers to make free local calls so that they can reach out to their near and dear ones, the release said.

Weather updates

The company, in association with the Indian Meteorological Department, has been sending regular weather updates to customers in critical locations to pre-warn them on the likely weather conditions.

In addition to aid the people to access emergency help line numbers, Airtel has displayed across all its Airtel Relationship Centres (showrooms) in Maharashtra & Goa the local emergency help line numbers of hospitals, blood banks, local administration, ambulance, chemists, contact numbers of state transports bodies etc., as a ready reckoner for its customers.
