Kochi , Aug. 13

The State Industries Department is planning to conduct more interaction with the business community in the coming days for formulating the development strategy of the State, the Industries Minister, Mr Elamaram Kareem, has said.

Though there are many groups who are willing to invest in the State, they are mostly worried over the delay and inspection of various governmental agencies in setting up ventures, he said while inaugurating the 149th AGM of the Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Taking into account all these things, the Minister said, the existing single-window clearance system would be strengthened to attract more investors. The task force chaired by the Chief Minister will be meeting next month and a strategy for strengthening the single-window clearance is being worked out, he added.

The Minister also called upon the business community to change the perception about the State. He pointed out that there is no man-days loss due to labour strike in industrial sector and a survey in this regard revealed that the man-days loss in the State is less when compared to other States.

The Government is also making efforts to promote export from the State and to strengthen the Commerce Department. A meeting associating all the export councils is planned on August 31 and the Union Minister of State for Commerce will attend the meeting, he said.

Mr N. Sreekumar, outgoing President of the Cochin Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said that a combined effort by the Government, chambers of commerce and industry, management associations and the people is required to make Kerala attractive to investors.

It is the responsibility of the chambers of commerce and various management associations to project Kerala as an investment-friendly State, he added.
