Oilseeds & Edible Oil Soyabean coverage up at 77.16 lh Our Bureau
Chennai , Aug. 10 Soyabean sowing has been completed in 95 per cent of the targeted area, with coverage in Madhya Pradesh being 98 per cent of the targeted 45.01 lakh hectares (lh). Till July 31, 77.16 lh have been brought under soyabean against 76.72 lh the whole of last year. In Madhya Pradesh, 45.5 lh have been brought under the oilseed crop against 41.92 lh last year. Though the crop in Madhya Pradesh is in good vegetative state, some areas have reported weed infestation, the Soyabean Processors Association of India (Sopa) said in a press release.
Targetted acerage
In Maharastra, 23.07 lh have been brought under the crop . However, excess rains in regions such as Kolhapur and Sangli could affect the crop, Sopa said. The crop condition in other States such as Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Chhattisgarh is reported to be good. In Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh, only 78 per cent of the targeted area has been covered, while in Chhattisgarh the coverage is 72 per cent of the targeted areas.
