Know your India quiz

Our Bureau

Chennai, Aug. 8

"How many young Indians know that the largest and most efficient logistics operator in the world on a day-to-day basis is the Mumbai dabbawallah," asks M. Gopinathan, Chairman of the India Quiz programme of Rotary Club of Tiruchirapalli Midtown, which is organising the "know your India" quiz for over one lakh students from 140 colleges in Tamil Nadu. The underlying objective of this exercise is not only to "educate students about India but inculcate in them a sense of pride in our great country. We feel that apart from learning math, chemistry or arts, our youngsters also need to have knowledge of all things Indian," he says.

The questions range from `which suburban rail system carries the largest number of passengers' to `which country has the largest number of English speaking graduates'. Sponsored by Titan, Nokia, Airtel and Kaliswari Fire works, the winners at different levels will get prizes ranging from Titan watches and Nokia communicators to two laptops at the finals. Twenty Rotary clubs are conducting this quiz in their districts, and district-level winners get to participate in the semi-finals to be held at Dindugal on August 22. The final is scheduled on September 3 at Tiruchi.
