Regus Chennai centre to open on Sept 1

Chennai , Aug. 3

The UK-based Regus Group, a provider of outsourced workplaces, will launch its sixth centre in India in Chennai on September 1.

Mr Madhusudan Thakur, Country General Manager, said that Regus has leased about 30,000 sq ft at the City Center on RK Salai and will house 80 offices.

The company's other centres are in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore.

The company decided to set up a centre in Chennai as the city has been projected as the next growth centre, he said.

Some eight million sq ft of quality space will come in to the market in the next one year. It is estimated that large MNCs would occupy about 80 per cent of the space, while smaller clients would take the rest.

Regus would focus on the smaller clients and provide them with workplace solutions like virtual office (provides the clients with a business address), conference and meeting rooms, and office space.

Regus offices are available on terms ranging from hourly rental to long-term arrangements, making it easy for clients to expand or reduce office space as business needs change.

The company offers a variety of office configurations, from single-person offices to team rooms, cubicles, hotdesks as well as part-time offices.

Mr Thakur said that clients pay for the space they occupy and the business services they require. The rates start from Rs 4,500 a day to Rs 25,000 a month for a fully furnished office.

Regus has invested $750,000 to set up the infrastructure at the Chennai centre.

The infrastructure allows companies to enter a market immediately with minimal start-up costs. Each office is outfitted with ergonomic furnishings, high-speed Internet connectivity and telecom facilities.

The occupancy rates at the centres range from 75 per cent to 80 per cent, he said. Customers get premium office space at a lower cost of occupancy than with traditional leases, he added.
