New Products & Services Web Extras - Air-conditioners & Refrigerators Trane launches air-conditioners for residential segment Our Bureau
Chennai , Aug. 3 Trane, the air-conditioning systems and services business of American Standard Companies, has launched its air-conditioners for the residential segment. The company will sell split air-conditioners aimed at the premium segment, which will be imported from Trane's manufacturing plant in Thailand, said Mr Manoj Kumar Mathur, Regional leader for India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Maldives. Under the free trade agreement between India and Thailand, these products would carry zero duty. Mr Mathur said there were no plans of setting up a manufacturing unit in India. Trane has two units in China, but products made in China would not be imported for the Indian market, he said. Ranging from 0.6 tonnes to 50 tonnes, the air-conditioners can be used for small commercial applications also. The systems will have anti-corrosive fins for long life in coastal areas. They would also result in 20-40 per cent energy saving, said Mr Mathur. The air conditioners will also have a three-layer purification process to maintain quality of indoor air. "The products will be priced on par with our competitors like Daikin and Mitsubishi," said Mr Mathur. He said a 1.5-tonne split type air-conditioner would cost a little over Rs 40,000.
Trane has 40 per cent market share in commercial air-conditioning with clients such as Tidel Park, Park Sheraton and MIOT Hospitals. At present, all the company's revenues come from commercial solutions, but over the next 5-6 years residential solutions are expected to contribute about 50 per cent to total revenues, said Mr Mathur.
Tropical Impex Pvt Ltd will distribute Trane systems in Chennai. Unitary solutions have been introduced in West and North India and Mr Mathur said demand in these regions was good but declined to share sales figures.
