Advertising Government - Policy Industry & Economy - Radio/TV Notification to curb violence, obscenity on cable Our Bureau
New Delhi , Aug 3 In a move that should help regulate airing of programmes showing obscenity, violence and cruelty among others, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Thursday issued a notification banning cable service providers from showing films, film songs, film promotions, film trailers or even music videos, music albums or their promotions unless it has been certified by the Central Board of Film Certification as being suitable for public exhibition here. In addition, another rule has been amended to provide that advertisements, which violate the code for self-regulation in advertising, as adopted by the Advertising Standard Council of India, Mumbai, for public exhibition here, shall not be carried on the cable service, an official statement issued here said.
