KSRTC saves Rs 2.24 crore on fuel cost

Thiruvananthapuram , Aug. 2

Implementing fuel saving techniques has helped the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) save Rs 2.24 crore every month on the cost of fuel.

Announcing this at a press conference in the city on Wednesday, Mr K.P. Somarajan, Chairman and Managing Director, KSRTC, said the overall fuel efficiency of the buses in the corporation's fleet has gone up from 3.74 km per litre of diesel to 4.01 km per litre of diesel.

The `save fuel' initiative launched in April 2005 has helped the corporation save, on an average, 22,000 litres of diesel every day. Through the campaign, the corporation expects to save Rs 30 crore a year on fuel costs, he added.

Over 3,000 KSRTC drivers have been trained in fuel-saving driving techniques, Mr Somarajan said. This measure has helped improve the fuel efficiency of buses in the corporation's fleet. Staff involved in the corporation's efforts to improve fuel efficiency will receive a `good service' entry and a cash incentive.
