Agri reforms

This refers to "Forget loan waivers, bring in positive reforms" (Business Line, August 1): Loan waivers cannot be a permanent feature.

When the farmer produces in plenty, he suffers due to the fall in price. Remedial actions are known but not taken.

The small farmer suffers not because of low productivity but because the income from the small-holding is not enough.

There should be opportunities for him to pursue part-time jobs. This can be achieved by developing the rural areas industrially.

A. Jacob Sahayam

Thiruvananthapuram
