Bangalore , Aug. 1

The Chennai-based Trivitron and Chinese medical equipment major Neusoft on Tuesday announced plans to jointly set up a manufacturing facility either in Bangalore or Chennai.

The initial investment shared equally would be around Rs 22 crore ($5 million) scalable to Rs 110 crore ($25 million) in four years, according to the President of Neusoft Medical Systems Co Ltd, Mr Zheng Quantu, and the MD of the Rs 110-crore Trivitron Group, Dr G.S.K. Velu.

The new facility will make five products, including linear accelerators, laser imagers, bio analysers and PACS (picture archival system). Apart from saving foreign exchange, local manufacturing of the instruments can bring down their prices by at least 30 per cent, Dr Velu said.

"After the software, retail and finance boom in India, the next big growth area is going to be indigenous medical technology," Dr Velu said.
