Society & Development Industry & Economy - Industry Associations States - Tamil Nadu `Corporate sector is conscious of need for inclusive growth' Our Correspondent
Madurai , July 31 The corporate sector is conscious that growth has to be inclusive and beneficial to all sections of society, according to Mr R. Seshasayee, CII President and Managing Director, Ashok Leyland. He told newspersons that CII, while facilitating diversity at the workplace, would endeavour to provide entrepreneurship and skill development programmes to the economically backward sections, especially SCs and STs, to make them become stakeholders over a period of time in the development process. Mr Seshasayee was in the city to inaugurate a `Dust-free Engine Reconditioning Room' of TVS. The CII has launched four missions this year under which efforts are being taken to identify the gaps in respect of the capabilities and skills required in every State for the growth of the economy and fill them by giving scholarships and imparting training in association with other institutions wherever necessary. To make the growth process become sustainable through conserving the environment in terms of fuel and water, CII member units, especially in Tamil Nadu, would endeavour to conserve water by about 10 per cent over the next five years. As far Tamil Nadu is concerned, research is being promoted in four sectors - auto components, textile, IT and ITES. The mission on inclusive growth can only be demonstrative as the corporate sector employs only two percent of the labour force, he added. On Tamil Nadu, he said that double-digit industrial growth is feasible, adding that Madurai has the potential to emerge as an IT hub.
