TN chamber seeks VAT postponement

Our Correspondent

Madurai, July 31

The Ramanathapuram Chamber of Commerce (RCC), while hailing the State Government's decision to introduce value-added tax system from next year, has suggested that its introduction be postponed to April 1 instead of January 1.

In a resolution passed at its executive committee meeting held on Tuesday, the Chamber said the accounting year for traders is from April to March and acceptance of the suggestion would help avoid confusion regarding calculation and submission of tax.

In another resolution, the Chamber has thanked the Government for exempting sales tax on dhal pulses and cooking oil. The announcement of an Rs 671- crore scheme to bring Cauvery water to Ramanathapuram district was a welcome step, it added.
