Association ready to employ candidates referred by collector's office

Coimbatore , July 30

The Southern India Mills Association (SIMA) has expressed its readiness to consider employing the candidates referred to by the district administration in the textile mills run by its members.

This offer was made by the SIMA Chairman, Mr S.V. Arumugam, to the District Collector, Mr Neeraj Mittal, in response to the latter's remarks during his special address at the inauguration of textiles spares and accessories exhibition, `Tex Spares 2006', organised by SIMA recently.

Offering opportunity

Mr Mittal said that the district administration received large number of petitions from job-seekers during weekly grievance day meetings. The SIMA chief said that one of the current concerns for the textile industry was the acute shortage of skilled labour and as such, his association would be in a position to employ in its member-mills candidates referred by the collector's office.

Mr Arumugam thanked the Centre for removing the freeze on technology upgradation fund scheme (TUFS), but pleaded that both the TUFS and the technology mission on cotton — another Central Government programme to support cotton growers — be extended to the 11th plan period to sustain the growth in sector.

Earlier, Mr Mittal said he wanted the SIMA to set up a core group, which can promote the contract farming in cotton that will benefit the textile industry in getting the required raw material. He said the administration would provide all inputs needed by the industry.
