Banking operations were affected in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Friday following a nationwide strike call given by the All-India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA), the All-India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA) and Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI).

The strike was called to protest various matters including amendments to Banking Regulations Act.

Nearly 450 members of these organisations staged a demonstration in front of the Kodialbail branch of Karnataka Bank Ltd in Mangalore. Mr P.R. Karanth, Secretary of Karnataka Pradesh Bank Employees' Federation and General Secretary of Karnataka Bank Employees Association, told Business Line here that the strike evoked good response in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
