Advertising Marketing - Courts/Legal Issues Corporate - Corporate Disputes Contempt case: 3 days prison for Zee MD, 7 days for Heinz GM Our Legal Correspondent
Kolkata , July 27 Mr Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta of the Calcutta High Court on Thursday ordered three days imprisonment to the Managing Director, Zee Telefilms Ltd, and seven days imprisonment to the General Marketing Manager of Heinz India Ltd, manufacturer of Complan, a health drink, for violation of the court's order relating to an advertisement displaying a cup marked "H", which is inferior to a cup marked "C". GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Products, the manufacturer of Horlicks, obtained an order restraining Heinz from publishing the advertisement showing that "H" Cup has less protein than that of "C" Cup. In the contempt of court petition, Glaxo alleged that in spite of a restraint order, Heinz continued with the advertisement. Mr Justice Sengupta held both the contemnors as guilty for disobeying high court's order and directed both to remain personally present before the court after three weeks, to convey the order of imprisonment and implementation of the same.
