To invest in Pune factory; increase capacity at Haryana

The company feels the need to make16,000 equipment per annum, particularly due to the economic boom and construction atmosphere prevailing in the country.

JCB India Ltd, involved in construction and earthmoving equipment manufacturing, is investing about Rs 350 crore in expanding production capacity at its Haryana-based plant and in the new factory at Pune, a company official said here.

It is investing Rs 250 crore at its Pune factory, which is scheduled to start production by the year-end, and another Rs 100 crore to expand the capacity at its existing premises at Ballabgarh (Haryana).

The Jamnagar-based Reliance Industries Ltd, recently put in an order for 60 JCB machines costing $1,20,000 in the proposed special economic zone there.

The company, which held a road show here to highlight the deftness of the loaders and other heavy equipment, feels the needto make 16,000 equipment per annum particularly due to the economic boom and construction atmosphere prevailing in India.

The company, with last year's sales of Rs 1,500 crore, sold 7,600 equipment in the calendar year 2004 and about 10,000 last year. The company was growing at a 30 per cent rate, Mr Amit Gussain, General Manager (Marketing), said at a news conference here.

JCB India Ltd, set up in 1980, has so far sold about 40,000 equipment in India and other SAARC nations.

The unlisted company is a fully-owned subsidiary of JC Bamford Excavators Ltd, UK.

The company offers 11 different machines in four product types such as backhoe loaders, loading shovels, tracked excavators and skid-steer loaders, through its network of 37 dealers and 145 outlets in India where it has a 45 per cent market share.
