New course in ePublishing

Most of the publishers in the US and UK are outsourcing their ePublishing projects to India

Coimbatore , July 24

The Chennai-based Digiscape Gallery has tied-up with the Pollachi-based Dr Mahalingam College of Engineering and Technology (MCET) to offer one-year Post Graduate Diploma programmes in ePublishing (design and editing) and Digital Prepress.

The programme is expected to commence in August.

Stating that MCET was the first institution outside of Chennai to sign up this agreement with Digiscape Gallery, the Managing Director of Cadgraf Digitals Private Ltd, Mr A. Elangovan, said the admission would be open to science, humanities, engineering, life sciences and law graduates but the selection would be based on the score in the course-specific entrance test and interview.

CadGraf, he said tied up with 10 companies in Chennai to impart training in ePublishing, but this was the company's maiden attempt to streamline this course. The company was exploring the possibility of tying up with institutions in the second-level metros to bridge the manpower requirement gap in this space, he said.

According to him, most of the publishers in the US and UK outsource their ePublishing projects to India. `Since there is no formal educational institution, the people are being trained by the recruiting company. This initiative with MCET would go a long way in structuring the training programme and the course content,' he said.

Digiscape is planning to train about 200 persons this year. The company would also be offering jobs to candidates on successful completion of the course, besides facilitating campus interviews with leading publishing houses.
