People Cisco's India head Rangu Salgame quits Our Bureau
MR RANGU SALGAME
Bangalore, July 21 Cisco Systems' head of India and SAARC operations, Mr Rangu Salgame, has put in his papers. The company said on Friday that Mr Salgame wouldleave his position of President - Cisco Systems, India and SAARC. The company did not attribute any reasons for Mr Salgame's exit. Mr Salgame was not reachable for comments. Further, Cisco said that Mr David Caspari, Vice-President of Service Provider Operations in the Asia-Pacific, after a transition process, would become the acting President of Cisco India. The company was searching for permanent replacement for Mr Salgame. Mr Caspari would continue to report to Mr Owen Chan, Cisco's President for Asia-Pacific operations.
Significant growth
Under Mr Salgame's leadership, Cisco registered significant growth and gained market share in India. It has been growing at over 40 per cent year-on-year in India, one of the fastest growing markets for the networking major. It is estimated that the company's revenues stood well over Rs 3,000 crore in 2005. In October 2005, the company announced it would invest over $1.1 billion in India over a three-year period in recognition of the country's rapid development, both as a market and a centre of research and development.
