Petroleum Crude output rises in June Our Bureau
New Delhi , July 20 Crude oil production in the country went up by 1.2 per cent and natural gas output rose by 1 per cent in June. Crude oil output rose to 2.825 million tonnes from 2.792 million tonnes last year as production from Mumbai High offshore fields, which suffered an accident last year, was restored. As per a data released by the Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation's Mumbai High offshore fields produced 1.487 million tonnes of crude. The June output from the field was marginally higher than 1.482 million tonnes crude produced in the same month last year. The country's refinery production (both public and private included) saw an increase of 10.4 per cent in June due to rise in domestic fuel demand, the data said. For the quarter April-June, crude production was marginally up at 8.434 million tonnes (8.416 million tonnes). The public and private sector refineries produced 11.75 million tonnes of petroleum products in June against 10.641 million tonnes in the same period the previous year.

Reliance, with operations at 109.1 per cent of the 33-million-tonnes-a-year capacity, was ahead in the category. India imports around 76 per cent of the crude oil it processes, which is also the country's largest import item in dollar terms. In June, India produced 2.68 billion cubic metres of natural gas, marginally up from the 2.66 billion cubic metres produced during the same month in 2005, the data showed.
