Master plan for residential, social infrastructure

The US company is preparing the master plan for residential and social infrastructure for about 200 acres.

Chennai , July 12

HOK (Helmuth, Obata + Kassabaum), Inc, a US-based architectural firm specialising in planning and design, is preparing the master plan for mixed-use residential project for Mahindra World City, a special economic zone at Maraimalai Nagar about 40 km south of Chennai.

The US company is preparing the master plan for residential and social infrastructure for about 200 acres of land that will be taken up in the second phase. In the first phase, Mahindra World City Developers Ltd, which is developing the SEZ, will develop a combination of bungalows, semi-detached houses and apartments on 22 acres of land, according to Ms Anita Arjundas, who has been named as Chief Operating Officer of Mahindra World City Developers Ltd. Till now, she was Vice-President-Marketing in the same company.

Mahindra World City has been promoted by Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd and a Tamil Nadu Government agency.

According to her, the company has started marketing the first phase, which is being developed by Mahindra Gesco Developers Ltd, another group company of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. There will be a total of 220 apartments in the first phase. The master planning by HOK will cover the rest of the residential and social infrastructure.

According to Ms Arjundas, all the 700 acres of land meant for industrial use have been either committed or leased out.

A press release announcing Ms Arjundas' appointment said she was instrumental in attracting an array of brands into the Mahindra World City such as Infosys, BMW, B. Braun and the TVS group. She is a business management post-graduate from BIM, Tiruchi, and joined the Mahindra group in 2002.
