Kerala seeks disaster relief from Centre

The State proposes to seek Rs 991.50 crore from the Centre under the disaster management programme for rehabilitation and reconstruction for damages resulting from natural calamities over the past few years.

Speaking to presspersons here after meeting with a six-member fact-finding team from the Centre, the Revenue Minister, Mr K. P. Rajendran, said the disbursement schedule was sought to be spread over a period of five years.

SPENDING SCHEDULE

The spending schedule as part of the rehabilitation and construction plan asked for is Rs 200 crore in the first year; Rs 250 crore each in the second and third years; Rs 200 crore in the fourth and Rs 91.50 crore in the fifth.

The State has also asked for a separate assistance to the tune of Rs 149 crore for flood relief. The various heads of proposed spending will be ex-gratia (Rs 29.5 lakh); free ration and relief camps (Rs 112 lakh); housing (Rs 666.9 lakh); agriculture (Rs 5,029 lakh); infrastructure (Rs 9,064 lakh) and others (Rs 5 lakh).
